• Volunteers must pass an annual criminal background check provided by the Boys & Girls Club of
Central Iowa.
• Volunteers are expected to electronically sign in using VolunteerLocal every time they show up for their
scheduled time. They can either use the VolunteerLocal app, or the front desk will have the check-in set
up for them. Volunteers should also make sure the front desk staff logs their times in and out on the
hard copy of the volunteer log.
• All Volunteers will also need to follow specific Club location (COVID) check-in policies, i.e. temperature
screenings, household questionnaires, etc.
• Volunteers are required to wear a volunteer badge or identification in order to differentiate themselves
from paid Club staff.
• Volunteers will complete surveys and evaluations throughout their service.
• An exit interview will be conducted at the end of their service. They will also receive a letter of
certification verifying their service at BGCCI.
• Volunteers will relay all immediate concerns directly to their Unit Director. The Unit Director will
investigate and report back to the volunteer about a solution. The Volunteer Coordinator should also be
notified.
• Volunteers must follow all Boys & Girls Club policies and procedures outlined in this handbook and/or
other required materials.
• Volunteers will not transport any youth.
• Volunteers are expected to show up when they are scheduled. If there are any changes in their
schedule, become sick and cannot make it to their site that day, they will notify Unit Directors as soon
as possible.
• Volunteers will only use Boys & Girls Club computers to help youth or otherwise perform their job
responsibilities.
• Volunteers will not communicate with club members outside of club operating hours or off of club
property, via social media or in person.
• Volunteers will not use their personal cell phones during the time they are scheduled. They will keep
their phones in their pockets, in their cars, etc. until after their shift is over.
• Volunteers will not take photos of interactions with members, or any other reason. If photos are needed
for their organization, they will let the Unit Director know.
• In the event of an accident or injury at the Boys & Girls Club, volunteers are not eligible for workman’s
compensation insurance.
